New Student Orientation

Orientation for incoming CAS graduate students will be held in August 2025. Additional details to follow.

Next Steps

1. Set Up Student Account at MyAU

Create an account at MyAU using the AU student ID login credentials that you received in your email acceptance message.

2. Submit Deposit

Pay your deposit by credit card or e-check through Eagle Service (also accessible via MyAU) by April 15. The deposit is $250. The deposit is nonrefundable and will be held in your student account and credited toward your tuition.

After your enrollment deposit is processed, you will receive an email confirmation with advising and registration information.

*If your admission includes conditions of acceptance, it is your responsibility to meet those conditions according to the specified schedule.

Please note that for AU employees the enrollment deposit is waived; and certificate students do not need to pay a deposit. Please confirm with your program director to register for classes.

1. Submit Official Transcripts

If you have not done so, please submit your final official transcript(s) to American University by the deadline listed at the top of this page. Final officials transcripts may be mailed by you or by your undergraduate institution.

Defer Enrollment

Graduate applicants who have been offered admission to American University may request to defer their enrollment for up to one year. Deferral requests are not guaranteed and must be approved by the respective program's department. Candidates who are approved for a deferral do not have to file a new application.

International Students: Inability to receive a visa is typically not grounds for a deferral.

To submit a deferral request, email CASGRAD@american.edu by August 1 (for fall/summer) or November 1 (for spring).

Withdraw Application

Please email casgrad@american.edu if you would like to withdraw your application.
