- Faculty Follow Up: New Eagle Access Course Materials Program
Last week, you should have received a message announcing AU’s new Eagle Access Course Materials Program. The program is designed to reduce costs while ensuring that students receive all required course materials on or before the first day of class.
As faculty, you will maintain academic freedom in selecting the required content, provider, and edition that best suits your course(s). We are asking faculty to provide their chosen course material adoptions for fall 2025 to the bookstore by May 15. Later submissions will be accepted, so if you are unable to meet this deadline, please pass along your adoptions as soon as possible. You are encouraged to continue using low- or no-cost open educational resources (OER) and course reserves. Please contact Rachel Borchardt (borchardt@american.edu) for questions about using OERs or reserves@american.edu for questions about course reserves.
The process of submitting your course materials request to the bookstore has not changed for the fall semester.
- Visit the Follett Discover online adoption tool and log in or register. First-time users should enter the password 0412. The Campus Store has also prepared a handout with further instructions.
- Please know that only materials listed as required are covered by the program fee.
- Digital materials will be integrated directly into the Canvas course sections, while physical materials will be prepared for pickup at the Campus Store.
- You will have the opportunity to check a box to indicate that only free OER materials will be required for the course.
- If an item is available on course reserves through the library, you should share that information with the bookstore in one of the comment boxes provided.
For further details on the Eagle Access Program, please visit the website. Following a discussion with the Faculty Senate earlier this month, we posted answers to several Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), but please do not hesitate to reach out if you have additional questions that we have not addressed.
Thank you for all that you do to support student success at AU!
