Bio
Gretchen York (she/her/hers) holds a PhD in English from the University of Virginia. Before coming to her current position at AU, Gretchen was a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Washington and Lee University and a Literary Fellow at the American Shakespeare Center. Her academic work focuses on theatrical disbelief as an invitation to community formation. In keeping with her interest in drama, Gretchen works to foreground dialogue and communal reflection within the first-year classroom. And as an advisor, she supports incoming College of Arts and Sciences students, encouraging broad exploration of their interests and possible academic pathways while also prioritizing progress towards their goals.
