You are here: American University Finance Communications Notice of Dining Staff Member Death
Communication April 1, 2025
Dear AU Community, Last night, DC Fire and EMS, along with AUPD, responded to a medical emergency in the Terrace Dining Room (TDR). Sadly, despite rendering lifesaving measures, a member of our dining staff employed with our dining operator, Chartwells, passed away. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is conducting a further investigation, which is standard in such circumstances. There is no suspicion of foul play or concern for community safety in this matter. Additional information will not be available until the investigation is complete and the individual’s family is notified.
Any community member needing support can access campus services including:
- Students seeking support are reminded that the Center for Well-Being and Psychological Services offers crisis intervention services through the AU ProtoCall 24-hour support line (202-885-7979).
